New Delhi, Aug 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the Centre to treat as a representation the petition that accused a company of misleading the public by selling a product it claimed could sterilise food and PPE kits.
"Treat the petition as a representation and decide in accordance with the law, rules and guidelines," said a division bench comprising Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan while disposing of a petition filed by Green Dream Foundation.
In its Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed through lawyer Nilesh Bijlani, the petitioner had also sought direction to the respondents to formulate guidelines for testing, launching, certification etc of products that supposedly killed novel coronavirus or sterilised products against the virus.
During the course of the hearing, advocate Sameer Nandwani submitted before the court that the company, Log 9 Material Pvt Ltd, claimed that its product 'Corona Oven' could sterilise food.
He said that the company also claimed that it could also sterilise PPE kits for reuse by healthcare personnel while treating COVID-19 patients.
"The product is sold as approved by the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, which has no mechanism to grant a certificate to any such product," the petitioner said through its counsel.
The plea sought court's direction to authorities concerned to take action against organisations or institutes which issue reports/certificates without proper evaluation of the product(s) and further do not keep track of the use of such reports.
