Noted actor Adil Hussain is upset with Indian mainstream media about their superficial reporting on Assam floods. He said that there should be debate and discussion about Assam floods on a national level and he added saying that since last 75 years people Assam are being ignored by successive central government.
Sharing five minute long video, Hussain wrote, “Most Indian Mainstream News Channels #assamfloods coverage is cursory. BBC News covered Some Today. Hope Indian News Channel wake up! There must be a National Debate, Discussion on Assam Floods. 75 years of suffering of Assamese People have been ignored by the Successive Governments”
In the video, he was being interviewed by BBC anchor where he shared geographical and environmental reasons because of which every year Assam has to face heavy floods. He also talked about apathy of Indian media houses to talk about issues of north-eastern states over the years. He also shared the reasons why central government of India doesn’t give importance to north-eastern states and its response to current natural calamity.
Adil Hussain has always supported actors, films and culture of Assam and he has been known as one of the influential voices of the state on every issue. He hails from Goalpara and his mother still lives there. Despite being in a high-lying area, their house faces the threat of rising flood waters.
As of Monday, The flood situation in Assam remained critical with one more person losing his life in the deluge, in which over 24 lakh people were affected in 24 districts of the state.
The total number of people losing their lives in this year's flood and landslide has gone up to 111 across the state, of whom 85 people were killed in flood-related incidents and 26 died due to landslides.
