Record 965 Covid cases take Guj tally to 48,441

Gandhinagar, July 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat reported a record 965 cases of coronavirus on Sunday, taking the total to 48,441 in the state, health officials said.

The state also saw 20 patients succumbing to the virus pushing the death count to 2,147, while 877 patients were discharged on Sunday. The total number of discharged patients now stands at 34,882.

Gujarat has witnessed nearly 16,000 coronavirus cases in the nineteen days of July, setting almost each day a new record. With an average of almost 831 cases daily, the state has registered 15,798 positive cases during 19 days of July.

Gujarat on Sunday saw the highest single day spike in four months, 965 positive cases detected from 12,323 samples tested during the past 24 hours, highest tests carried out so far in a single day. Surat, the new hotspot for the virus is also witnessing higher count each passing day. Registering nearly 30 per cent of positive cases, Surat saw 285 cases detected on Sunday, while Ahmedabad registered 212 cases.

Ahmedabad was followed by Vadodara (79), Rajkot (49), Bhavnagar (35), Gandhinagar (30), Mehsana (22), Banaskantha (21), Dahod and Kutch (19 each), Bharuch (18), Panchmahals (16), Surendranagar and Junagadh (15 each), Patan and Valsad (14 each), Amreli (13), Kheda and Tapi (12 each), Navsari (11), Jamnagar and Sabarkantha (10 each), Morbi (9), Anand (7), Mahisagar (5), Aravali (4), Narmada (3), Botad and Gir-Somnath (2) and Chhota Udepur and Porbandar with one positive case each.

Gujarat saw 20 casualties reported on Sunday, where nine patients died in Surat, six in Ahmedabad, 2 in Dahod and one patient each died in Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Gir-Somnath due to Covid-19.

With this, the death toll of the state has reached 2,147. The total number of corona deaths in Ahmedabad has reached 1,553, while 262 have died in Surat, 57 in Vadodara, 37 in Gandhinagar, 24 in Aravalli, 20 in Patan, 17 in Rajkot and Bhavnagar, 16 deaths each in Panchmahals and Banaskantha, 14 deaths each in Mahesana and Kheda, 13 deaths in Anand and 11 have died in Bharuch.

The death toll rate of Ahmedabad which used to be around 81 per cent of the total toll is gradually coming down. On Sunday, it has come down a bit to 72.33 per cent. Gujarat's mortality rate has also come down a bit to 4.43 per cent, but is still one of the highest in the country.

There are 11,412 active cases, out of which the condition of 11,343 is stable, whereas 69 critical patients are still on ventilator.

Right now, 3,96,393 people are quarantined in the state out of 3,94,223 are home quarantined and 2,156 in government facilities.
