Vivo X50 Pro: Gimbal camera makes it an amateur shutterbug’s delight

By Md Waquar Haider

New Delhi, July 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Smartphone cameras have always been at the centre of innovation and Vivo has introduced a Gimbal camera system in the newly-launched X50 Pro which revolutionises the mobile photography by delivering super stabilisation, enabling users to capture good images and videos while in motion and even at night.

Vivo has launched two new smartphones in the flagship series - the X50 and the X50 Pro - aiming to take on the likes of Samsung, Apple and OnePlus in the premium segment, amid some sold competition out there.

Vivo X50 comes in two storage models - 8GB+128GB at Rs 34,990 and 8GB+256GB at Rs 37,990 while Vivo X50 Pro 5G is priced at Rs 49,990 for the sole 8GB+256GB model.

Of the two, we used X50 Pro (Alpha Grey colour) for a couple of days and here is what it offers.

The highlight, of course, is the gimbal camera system.

Modelled after a full-size professional gimbal, X50 Pro's built-in gimbal module moves in the opposite direction of shaking motions, providing increased stability for the main camera.

This system also widens the rotation angle and anti-shake area compared to popular stabilisation technologies, resulting in super-clear images.

The gimbal user interface (UI), an on-screen animated dot within a circle (which reflects the gimbal's movement), lets users know when the frame is stable.

Vivo's motion de-blur algorithm, custom sensors and continuous focus tracking further enhance image and video clarity.

The smartphone has the quad rear camera system that includes a 48MP customised Sony IMX598 primary sensor with an f/1.6 lens and Gimbal Camera System, an 8MP super-wide-angle shooter with a 120-degree field of view, 13MP bokeh shooter with an f/2.48 lens, and an 8MP telescopic shooter that enables 60x hybrid zoom.

This combination ensures that the camera experience will never be the same again. We found image quality excellent, with vibrant yet natural colours and ample detail.

The Portrait mode worked very well with good foreground and background separation, but the night mode was exceptional.

With the night mode on, images turned out quite sharp and managed to retain a good amount of detail.

The smartphone comes with a 32MP selfie camera at the front that also did justice to portrait shots.

X50 Pro looks superb. The display curves on the sides where it meets the frame with German specialty glass maker Schott's Xensation Up glass at front and back, gives the phone a premium look and makes it comfortable to hold.

The volume buttons are on the right and are comfortable for single hand operations. The top and the bottom of the phone are completely flat. It has a USB Type-C port at the bottom along with a bottom-firing speaker and a SIM tray.

The camera setup is perfectly placed at the back just like the Samsung S20 Ultra.

The phone features a 6.56-inch full-HD+ (1,080x2,376 pixels) 3D Curved Ultra O AMOLED Screen with HDR 10+ support, 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch response rate with a hole for the selfie camera towards the top left corner. It also has an in-display fingerprint scanner.

During the review, streaming lots of videos on YouTube or scrolling through content and social media feed did feel smoother as compared to a regular screen.

The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset which comes with 5G support and has an octa-core CPU clocked at upto 2.4GHz with Adreno 620 GPU to boot. This is paired with 8GB RAM and upto 256GB internal storage. The Vivo X50 Pro runs FunTouchOS 10.5 on top of Android 10.

There was no lag in daily operations, or when switching between multiple apps running at the same time.

Actual gaming performance is solid; PUBG Mobile ran smoothly at relatively high graphics settings. The same went for Asphalt 9 too.

The smartphone houses a 4315mAh battery that easily lasted a day on normal usage.

Conclusion: The Vivo X50 Pro is a smartphone from the future which is loaded with impressive internals especially the camera department but still faces stiff competition from OnePlus 8 Pro in the segment.
