London, June 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Liverpool defender Joel Matip will miss the remaining matches of the English Premier League season due to a foot injury, the champions said on Tuesday.
Centre back Matip sustained the injury during Liverpool's goalless draw with local rivals Everton earlier this month.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: "This season I will be not back on the pitch but for next season, I hope I'm going to be quite early a direct help for the team."
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Monday urged the fans of the club to "do what is right" following scenes of mass celebrations after their Premier League title win.
As per a Sky Sports report, Merseyside Police said on social media that 15 people were arrested last Friday night, and that officers were "subjected to a number of violent confrontations" as Liverpool fans gathered in huge numbers to celebrate their first league title in 30 years.
Klopp wrote an open letter in the Liverpool Echo to fans on Monday to thank them for their support.
Liverpool sealed their first English top flight title win in 30 years and their first ever Premier League title when Manchester City lost 2-1 to Chelsea on Friday.
Former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann said that Klopp has helped the club go five years ahead of their arch-rivals Manchester United.
Hamann, who made 191 competitive appearances for Liverpool, said United have now fallen "five years" behind the Anfield giants and Klopp may have knocked them out off their perch.
