New Delhi, June 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday visited the 10,000-bed Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre at Radha Soami Satsang Beas at Chattarpur in south Delhi and reviewed the preparedness.
The Covid-19 centre is being developed under the Union Home Ministry's supervision to meet the bed shortage amid rise in the number of novel coronavirus cases in Delhi.
As on Saturday, the total number of cases in the national capital were recorded to be 80,188 with 30,887 active cases while 2,558 have succumbed to the deadly disease and 49,301 people have recovered.
Besides Shah and Kejriwal, Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General S.S. Deswal also visited the centre with them.
In around half-an-hour visit, the Home Minister was apprised about the facilities and the preparedness to deal with patients at the centre.
Around 2,000 beds are also being made operational at the Sardar Patel Covid-19 care centre. The operation of this centre, including availability of adequate medical personnel, has been entrusted to the central armed police forces, led by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
While the Delhi government has been providing all administrative support, the Radha Soami Beas, the campus, housing and other infrastructure as well as food. The centre's bed capacity may rise to 10,200. It will be the largest Covid-19 care facility in India.
More than 1,000 doctors, nurses and paramedic staff of the ITBP and other paramilitary forces have been deployed at the facility. An additional 1,000 paramedical, assistant and security staff have also been posted there.
The centre will have two segments - Covid care centre, where asymptomatic cases will be treated, and the dedicated Covid health care.
The Covid care centre will account for 90 per cent of beds, the dedicated Covid health care, the rest 10 per cent of beds. More than 75 ambulances will be deployed at the centre.
