London, June 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) England Tests skipper Joe Root has warned his teammates against the West Indies pace attack ahead of the three-match Test series which will mark the resumption of cricket after coronavirus stoppage.
Referring to the visitors' bowling attack as formidable, Root stated they are aware what the visitors will be throwing at them in the upcoming series.
The visitors have included fast-bowlers Jason Holder, Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Chemar Holder and Oshane Thomas in their squad for the series.
West Indies bowling coach Roddy Estwick had earlier said that the current crop of bowlers are as good as their fearsome attack of the 80s and 90s and they could spring a surprise against the high-profile batting line-up of the 'Three Lions'.
"We are very aware of the skill West Indies have and what they will bring to this series," Root told BBC Sport.
"One thing that stood out was how formidable their bowling attack can be. It is really important we prepare well and we are ready for all of that."
Root also heaped praise on his counterpart Holder, who had earlier warned England against taking his team lightly. Root stated Holder is now reaching the peak of his powers and it will interesting to play against him.
"Jase is one of the most well-respected guys in international cricket," Root said. "He took the job at a young age and we are starting to see him at the peak of his career.
"He comes across as a very good bloke. I am looking forward to chatting to him from a social distance."
West Indies had famously beaten England during the previous series between the two sides that was played in the Carribbean Islands. A draw in the series would be enough for them to retain the Wisden trophy.
The first Test of the much-anticipated series will be played on July 8 at the Ageas Bowl, followed by two Tests at Old Trafford on July 16 and July 24.
