UGC Committee Endorses NSUI Stand, Recommends Promotion Of Students Without Exam

NSUI has been running a campaign to scrap exams and demanding promotion on the basis of past performance. We took this stand after discussion with VCs, academics, etc. NSUI was the first organization (students and academics) to take this stand and when we first started the campaign, it was seen to be a bit frivolous.

Today, the UGC Committee constituted to recommend how to assess students during the pandemic has endorsed NSUI's stand. Many states/universities had already started promoting 1st and 2nd-year students.

Under this campaign, we have submitted memorandums to VCs of universities across the country, sent messages in university WhatsApp groups, held press conferences in every state, and filed writ petitions. Our social media trends have registered between 1 lakh - 3 lakh tweets each time, with participation from a large number of unaffiliated students. Our petition has garnered more than 2 lakh signatures. We have also petitioned the UGC & HRD and have protested in front of the HRD Minister.

This has become a political issue in many states including Maharashtra, MP, Haryana.
ABVP has taken an opposite stand, running trends like #StudentsforEducation, intervening through the Governor in Maharashtra, etc.
