Bengaluru, June 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Karnataka capital recorded 138 Covid cases, highest in a single day, while 337 new cases took the state's tally beyond the 8,000 mark to 8,281, an official said on Friday.
"New cases reported from Thursday 5 p.m. to Friday 5 p.m., 337," said a health official.
Meanwhile, 10 people succumbed to the virus on Friday - seven in Bengaluru, two in Bidar and one in Vijayapura.
Of the new cases, domestic returnees constituted 94, with a majority from Maharashtra.
There were also 11 cases with international travel history to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
For the second day, contacts of earlier cases outnumbered domestic returnee infections, at 141 cases.
On Friday, Covid cases spiked in Bengaluru Urban, Kalaburagi, Ballari, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Davangere, Udupi, Bidar, Mysuru and Koppal.
Among the new cases, Bengaluru Urban contributed 138, followed by Kalaburagi (52), Ballari (37), Hassan (18), Dakshina Kannada (13), Davangere (12), Udupi (11), Bidar (10), Mysuru and Koppal (six each), Yadgir, Kolar and Bengaluru Rural (four each), Mandya, Dharwad, Chikkaballapura, Bagalkote and Ramanagara (three each), Tumkur and Chikkamagaluru (two each) and Belagavi, Uttara Kannada and Shivamogga (one each).
A record 51 patients are suffering from Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and 31 from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI)
On a positive note, 230 people got discharged, raising the total discharges to 5,210.
Currently, Bengaluru Urban is leading the state's Covid-19 burden with 531 active cases, followed by Kalaburagi (469), Yadgir (399), Ballari (272), Dakshina Kannada (209) and Bidar (146) among others.
In all, 4.84 lakh samples have been tested so far, of which 4.64 lakh have tested negative.
Bengaluru Urban has accounted for 58 deaths, followed by Kalaburagi and Bidar (11 each), Vijayapura (8) and Dakshina Kannada, and Davangere (6 each), among others.
