Traders’ bodies decide to keep Delhi markets open

New Delhi, June 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Sunday said that markets in Delhi will remain open as the Centre has assured to step up its fight against coronavirus in the national capital.

The decision comes after the traders' organisations in Delhi held a video conference whereby 275 trade leaders discussed continuity of businesses and keeping markets open amid the surging number of coronavirus cases in the city.

In a statement, CAIT said that if the situation warranted, respective trade associations may take decisions about their respective markets -- whether to open the market on an odd-even basis or on alternate days or adopt a four day opening for shops.

"The commercial markets in Delhi shall remain open after the direct intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and aggressive steps announced by Home Minister Amit Shah after holding a meeting with Delhi LG Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal," it said.

CAIT had written to Shah, Baijal, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Puri and Kejriwal requesting them to step up their efforts in the fight against the pandemic.

CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said that over the last 10 days, the situation in Delhi had become extremely alarming and there was widespread fear and insecurity among the traders of Delhi.
