Tinsukia: People participate in a demonstration demanding to save North Eastern Coalfields at eastern Assamâs Margherita, in Tinsukia district on June 12, 2020. The North Eastern Coalfields has temporarily stopped its operations. The North-Eastern Coalfields is a unit of Coal India Limited in Assam. NEC ceased their operation as a result of the protests of the people. Also, the natives were protesting to stop the adverse impact on the subtropical rainforest. The General Manager of NEC signed an official letter with the effect of which all the mining operations in Assamâs Margherita will be halted.
