New Delhi/Bengaluru, June 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Election Commission has postponed biennial elections to the four Karnataka legislative Council seats from two Graduates' constituencies and two Teachers' constituencies due to Covid-induced lockdown, an official said on Monday.
"Though the term of the four is ending on June 30, the poll panel is of the view that holding the election process in the current environment may not be feasible due to Covid-induced restrictions imposed for the maintenance of public safety and avoiding health hazards," said Joint Chief Electoral Officer H. Jnanesh in a statement from New Delhi.
Invoking its powers under the Article 324 of the Constitution read with section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Commission has ordered the process of elections to the four seats be initiated at a later date after reviewing the situation, said the statement.
