New Delhi, May 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) More than 50 per cent of Covid-19 patients in Delhi have recovered and a huge portion of virus affected people are recovering through home isolation, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday said.
Speaking about the need to maintain personal hygiene and social distancing to keep coronavirus at bay, the Deputy Chief Minister also stressed that there is no need to go into a state of panic and fear.
Addressing a digital press conference Sisodia urged people to wear masks and wash their hands regularly.
"There is no need for us to panic. It is worth mentioning that around 80 to 90 per cent of infected people are recovering in home quarantine. There is this fear that once somebody tests positive, they have to be admitted to a hospital. We get a lot of panic calls too. But if the symptoms are not severe and you are overall asymptomatic, you should confine yourself to an isolated room and quarantine yourself," he said.
Sisoida said other family members should maintain a safe distance and keep their homes and self sanitised.
Talking about the improved recovery rate of coronavirus cases in Delhi, Sisodia added the cases are improving.
"More than 50 per cent people in Delhi have recovered. A huge portion of corona affected people are recovering through home isolation."
He also spoke about the rising number of positive coronavirus cases in Delhi but assured that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure speedy recovery of the patients.
"Coronavirus cases are on the rise in India. But do not panic. Just keep yourself safe."
On the jump in the Covid toll, Sisodia said 13 deaths have been reported due to coronavirus in the past 24 hours in Delhi.
"At least 69 old coronavirus-related deaths have also been added in our health bulletin that occurred in a span of the past 34 days."
He said 52 deaths were reported from Safdarjung hospital alone.
"The rest were from other hospitals. So the health bulletin will reflect 82 deaths, but out of these - 13 deaths have happened in the last 24 hours and the rest 69 deaths have happened in the course of the last 34 days. We got late reporting on these deaths. So we have audited the data accordingly."
Till Thursday, there were 16,281 positive cases with 8,470 active. At least 316 people have died while 7,495 have recovered.
