We welcome the judgment given by the High Court abolishing the Ordinance issued by the State government removing the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner. The court verdict gives breath to the democracy in the State and instilled confidence among the people on the democratic process. It is once again understood with the judgment of the State High Court that the judicial wings will safeguard when the governments try to utilize the systems established based on the Constitution as per their whims and fancies.
Without going for any hesitation, the State government shall reinstate Sri Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as State Election Commissioner immediately by accepting the court verdict, respecting the Constitution, and the law. They have targeted Sri Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar for going against their wishes in the local body elections. He postponed the elections on that day in the capacity of Election Commissioner expecting how dangerous the Corona catastrophe. No democratic people have hailed the Chief Minister's reaction then. The comments made against the officer who was in a position of a Constitutional body by the ruling party leaders including the Chief Minister have established their tendency.
When all the people are worried about Corona, the government has put all its efforts into removing the Election Commissioner even not considering the Articles in the Constitution. The government must realize at least now with the verdict that it shall function and take decisions abiding the rules within the Constitution and the law. It shall also understand that democracy will be protected by the judiciary system if it ruled the State with monopolistic or dictatorship tendencies. The official machinery shall create awareness to the rulers on the Constitution and the Acts. Otherwise, they are only responsible to answer to the courts.
