Delhi HC bids ‘virtual farewell’ to Justice Sangita Sehgal

New Delhi, May 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) While the country is under lockdown due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus and all public gatherings prohibited, the Delhi High Court on Friday bid a first-of-its-kind "virtual farewell" to Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal.

Justice Sehgal will soon be taking over as the President of the Delhi State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (DSCDRC). Justice Sehgal was set to retire as the judge of the high court in June at the age of 62 but she tendered her resignation following her appointment to the commission. Her resignation was accepted by the Central government last week.

All the 33 judges of the Delhi High Court including Chief Justice D N Patel joined the programme through video conferencing at their residences.

Attending the farewell function through video conferencing, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Maninder Acharya and Delhi government senior standing counsel (criminal) Rahul Mehra too addressed the gathering.

Justice Sehgal obtained her LLB degree from Delhi University in 1981 and completed her LLM in 1983. She joined service in July 1985.

She served as the Registrar General of Delhi High Court from April 2013 to December 2014 and also worked as Registrar (Vigilance). She was elevated as an additional judge of the High Court on December 15, 2014, and became a permanent judge on June 2, 2016.

She was also serving as the Presiding Officer of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) Tribunal and was a member of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).
