Inflow of people from two states swells K’taka COVID-19 cases

Bengaluru, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Domestic travel returnees from two states have increased Covid cases in Karnataka in the past 19 hours, raising the state's tally to 2,493, an official said on Thursday.

"New cases reported from Wednesday 5 p.m. to Thursday noon, 75," said a health official.

Covid cases spiked in Udupi, Hassan, Chitradurga and Bengaluru Urban.

Of all the cases, 1,635 are active, 809 discharges and 47 deaths.

As many as 46 new cases had a travel history to Maharashtra and six to Tamil Nadu.

Seventeen of the new cases were contacts of earlier positive cases.

A 39-year-old man from Raichur is suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

In the past 19 hours, 28 patients got discharged, nine from Yadgir, eight from Davangere, four from Vijayapura, three from Dakshina Kannada, two from Belagavi and one each from Mysuru and Bagalkote.

Among the new cases, 53 were men and 22 women, including four children below 10 years of age.

Bengaluru Urban has seen 10 deaths, followed by Kalaburagi (7), Dakshina Kannada (6), Vijayapura (5), and the remaining from other districts.

Of the 2,418 cases till Wednesday, 8 per cent were senior citizens, and 62 per cent men and 38 per cent women. The state's patient discharge rate has declined to 32 per cent.
