Switzerland to end highest alert, further ease restrictions

Bern, May 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Swiss government announced that it will officially lift the highest alert of "extraordinary situation" on June 19 and will further ease the COVID-19 related restrictions soon.

Following a meeting on Wednesday, the Swiss Federal Council said in a statement that it has decided to downgrade the situation status from "extraordinary" to "special" from June 19, reports Xinhua news agency.

It also has decided that gatherings of up to 30 people will be allowed from May 30 and public and private events of up to 300 people will be permitted as of June 6.

According to the latest Swiss government decisions, zoos, theatres, cinemas, sports events and campgrounds will be able to re-open from June 6.

The country's borders with Germany, Austria and France will be re-opened for tourism and professional visits starting June 15.

Switzerland began to ease the anti-coronavirus measures on April 27 and further eased the restrictions on May 11.

These two steps have not resulted in an increase in epidemiological indicators, with new infections standing at around 20 per day now.

The country has so far registered 30,776 COVID-19 cases, with 1,917 deaths.
