Committed to providing a safe training environment to athletes: IIS

New Delhi, May 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) JSW's Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Bellary, Karnataka on Thursday said that it will implement the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) compiled by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and ratified by the central government.

"It is good to see that clear guidelines to be followed for return to sport have now been published and this shows the government's commitment to getting athletes back onto the playing fields as soon, and in the safest manner, as possible," IIS CEO Rushdee Warley said.

"We have been implementing some of the guidelines already at IIS over the past couple of months and are committed to providing a safe training environment to all athletes at the institute. We understand that even with these detailed guidelines, there are no guarantees and therefore we will continue to act in a vigilant manner to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our athletes and staff at IIS."

SAI Secretary Rohit Bharadwaj in an online video conference that the SOP will be implemented "immediately." "This SOP will be implemented immediately as of now. However, only activities that are permitted under the government guidelines will begin," he said.

It was however stated that the SOP will be inferior in places where they may clash with the guidelines of the specific state government. Additionally, Bharadwaj said that it is only a "broad reference document" and will need to be adapted according to the conditions of the particular region.
