SSLC exam in Karnataka from June 25 to July 4 now

Bengaluru, May 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Karnataka's Covid-hit re-scheduled Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) board exam for class 10 students would be held from June 25 to July 4, state Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar said on Monday.

"The SSLC board exam will be conducted at 2,879 centres across the state under new guidelines, which make wearing mask and maintaining social distance mandatory," he told reporters here.

An estimated 8.5 lakh students from state-run and private schools have registered for the exams in 6-8 subjects to be held from March 27 to April 9, but put off to April 20 after the first 21-day lockdown was enforced on March 25, and then again postponed following extension of the lockdown.

The state Department of Public Instruction released the revised time table and uploaded it on its websiteearlier in the day.

"As at least 2 metres of distance has to be kept between two students, additional class rooms will be arranged for complying with the guidelines," said Kumar.

The state scouts and guides will distribute two masks to every student at the school entrance to wear one before getting into the exam room or hall and keep the other as spare.

"Each exam centre will also be equipped with sanitiser dispensers to wash hands before and after completing the exam daily," Kumar said.

Students who shifted to home town during the prolonged lockdown will be allowed to write exams from the nearest centre, where they are staying.

"The board is collecting details of students who shifted to their native place during the lockdown after schools were shut. They will be put up at SC/ST and Morarji Desai hostels across the state fro the exams," added Kumar.

In a related development, the pre-university course (PUC) board said exam in English for secondary year would be held on June 18 at the centre where students wrote the other subject before the lockdown was enforced.

Though PUC board exams began as per schedule on March 4, the last exam (chemistry) could not be held on March 23, as nine districts in the state were shut down till March 31 to prevent the virus spread.
