Doctor’s suicide case: AAP MLA’s custody extended by 4 days

New Delhi, May 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Delhi court on Thursday extended the police remand of Aam Aadmi Party legislator Prakash Jarwal and co-accused Kapil Nagar by four more days in connection with the suicide of a Delhi doctor.

The Delhi Police had on Saturday arrested Jarwal and Nagar after the doctor's son blamed them for his father's death.

The doctor had committed suicide at his residence last month. The purported suicide note recovered from the spot allegedly blamed the duo for harassing him over his water supply business.

Jarwal and Nagar were produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Harshita Vatsayan at the end of their four-day police custody on Thursday. The duo was sent to custody till 18 May.

"A lot of investigative work still remains to be done and several material facts still need to be ferreted out," the court said while allowing the duo's custody to the police.

The recovery of Jarwal's mobile phone, which is a very vital lead, is still to be affected and even the money trail is to be fully established, the court observed.

"Confrontation of the accused persons with other aggrieved persons and Delhi Jal Board officials is yet to be done. In light of the above facts and circumstances, I am of the opinion that the police remand of 4 days is justified," Vatsayan said.

During the proceedings, Inspector Kumar Rajeev told the court that even though the accused persons were earlier remanded to four days' custody, not much effective headway could be made as they did not cooperate in the investigation.

The police further submitted that the accused persons concealed several material facts and had been giving evasive answers to the questions posed by the interrogation team.

Rajeev further stated that during the course of the investigation, several facts had come to the fore, which prima facie indicated that Jarwal was running an extortion syndicate and had murky dealings with numerous water tanker owners.

The inspector further alluded to certain alleged dealings between Jarwal and co-accused Nagar.

Advocate Ravi Drall, appearing for Jarwal, had opposed further extension of custody by asserting that the phones have already been recovered from the house of both the accused.
