Setback for Karti Chidambaram in tax case

Chennai, May 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed the plea of Congress MP Karti P. Chidambaram and his wife Srinidhi to discharge them from the case filed by Income Tax (IT) Department for tax violations.

The court also dismissed his petition challenging the transfer of the case to Special Court for cases against Members of Parliament (MP) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA).

The case is about the sale of land owned by the couple near here in 2015-16 in which IT department argues cash of about Rs 7 crore was involved and was not disclosed.

The High Court had earlier issued an interim stay against the orders of the Special Court that had dismissed the discharge petition filed by the couple and ordered the prosecution and framing of charges.
