580 new cases take TN Covid-19 tally to 5,409; toll 37

Chennai, May 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Koyambedu wholesale market cluster continued to raise the coronavirus count in Tamil Nadu with 580 people testing positive over the past 24 hours, said the Health Department, here on Thursday.

According to a state government statement, 580 people tested positive for coronavirus, taking the tally to 5,409, while two persons lost their lives to Covid-19 raising the death toll to 37.

Thirty-one Covid-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals, taking the number of cured persons to 1,547. Over the past 24 hours, 14,185 samples were tested.

The state capital continued to see the highest number of infections at 316, followed by Thiruvallur (65) and Villupuram (45). The number of infected children in the 0-12 age group went up to 273.

The total number of active cases in Tamil Nadu stands at 3,822.
