Kolkata, May 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government on Wednesday issued an order to appoint the board of administrators to run the day-to-day work of the state's largest civic body - the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
"The order has been issued today by Nabanno to appoint a 14-member board of administrators at KMC. The tenure of the elected present board will come to an end tomorrow (May 7). The new board will take over charge from May 8," KMC mayor Firhad Hakim, who is also the state municipal affairs minister, told IANS on Wednesday.
The new board will be led by Hakim himself while deputy mayor and other members of the mayor in council (MMiC) will also be there to run the necessary civic operations.
The decision to appoint the new board of administrators came into play in the wake the nationwide Covid-19 pandemic. The municipal elections in various urban local bodies (ULBs) of West Bengal, including (KMC), that were scheduled to be held in April-May this year were postponed for an indefinite period owing to the ongoing shutdown.
