On way back home, langar food packets for migrants
New Delhi, May 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) At a time when the government has arranged special trains to ferry back migrant labourers, there is more good news for them. Starting from Monday, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will distribute vegetarian food packets to all homebound migrant workers, pilgrims and stranded students, for the entire travel period.

It's President Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that volunteers of DSGMC will distribute these food packets at New Delhi railway station, Old Delhi railway station, Nizammudin and Anand Vihar Railway stations.

He added that the langar cooked food will be distributed to each and every passenger irrespective of caste, creed, or religion, and additional food packets if required by any passenger, will also be provided.

The volunteers will coordinate with local railways platform authorities for ensuring timely distribution to each passenger before the train moves out. The langar will be prepared by people who have been working in the gurdwaras for several years. In the past couple of weeks, these cooks have been working, on an average, 15-16 hours a day to meet the growing demand for meals as thousands look for ways to feed their families in the time of lockdown.

One mini truck of the Gurdwaras will be used to transport the langar food to various railway stations, informed Sirsa.

"The DSGMC is already providing food packets to around one lakh migrant workers from its Gurdwaras located at various places in the national capital," said Sirsa.

The DSGMC has also provided accommodation to around 200 doctors and paramedical staff deployed on COVID-19 duties at hospitals like the AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia, Lady Hardinge Hospital.
