No new containment zone in Delhi, tally remains 100

New Delhi, April 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) It was on April 8 that the Delhi government announced that 20 containment zones had been set up in the city and since then, more and more red zones were added, taking the number to 100. However, Wednesday was the first day when no new area was sealed in the city.

Till Tuesday, there were 100 containment zones across the city, according to the Delhi government, with highest 21 in the South-East district.

All the 11 districts in Delhi have containment or red zones, with the least in the North-West district.

While the South-East district has the highest 21 red zones, the South district has 14 red zones. The North-West district has just three containment zones, and the North-East has five containment zones.

On March 26, J and K, L and H pockets of Dilshad Garden and G, H, J blocks of old Seemapuri became the first two containment zones of the city, now counted as one on the Delhi government's list.

In just over a month of the announcement of the first red zone in the city, the tally has reached 101, but one in East Delhi's Vasundhara Enclave was de-contained last week, so there are 100 active containment zones.

After the administration seals a 'containment zone', the Delhi government starts 'Operation SHIELD' -- Sealing, Home Quarantine, Isolation and Tracking, Essential Supply, Local Sanitisation and Door-To-Door Checking -- in the area to control the spread of the virus.

'Operation SHIELD' has completely stopped the transmission of coronavirus in Dilshad Garden and Old Seemapuri, while no new cases have been reported from many of the containment zones in East Delhi as well. The containment zones -- created to map the local transmission of the infection and prevent the contagion from spreading -- are announced by the office of the District Magistrate, and movement of people there is completely barred with the authorities taking care of the essential supplies.

The total Covid cases in Delhi stood at 3,314 as of Wednesday evening with 54 deaths.
