2 held in B’luru for selling cigarettes amid lockdown

Bengaluru, April 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) The city police has arrested two persons for selling cigarettes by contacting prospective buyers online and then delivering these at their doorsteps, an official said on Friday.

"The duo was selling Indian and imported cigarettes through an online portal named Moonlight Delivery," Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Crime Branch, Kuldeep Jain told IANS.

Accused Akhtar Mirza, 28, a Richmond Town resident, and Tajbuddin, 32, from Shantinagar, were arrested under the National Disaster Management Act (NDMA) and Section 188 of the IPC.

The accused were sent by a local court in judicial custody.

Jain said the two took customer orders online and drove in their car to deliver the tobacco products sold at exorbitant prices to their clients.

"The two accused were advertising their services on Facebook and Twitter," the officer said.

Police seized 450 cigarette packets worth Rs 3 lakh and a Honda City car from them.

The two were caught red-handed in area falling under Cubbon Park police station limits on Thursday evening while they were out to deliver their wares.
