Bengaluru, April 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala donated 30 per cent of his salary to the PM Cares Fund, set up to fight coronavirus outbreak across the country, an official said on Tuesday.
"The governor has donated 30 per cent of his emoluments to the PM Cares Fund through internet banking on Tuesday," said the official in a communique from Raj Bhavan here.
Vala has also decided to contribute 30 per cent of his salary for a year to the fund for spending on treating the virus-affected people.
"The governor will continue to remit 30 per cent of his salary every month during the year to the fund," the official added.
The Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (Cares) Fund was set up on March 28 for combating, containment and relief efforts against the pandemic.
State Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on April 1 declared that he would donate his year's salary amounting to Rs 24 lakh to the CM's Relief Fund Covid-19, set up by the state government to fight the fallout of the communicable disease.
Yediyurappa also urged in Kannada his cabinet colleagues, ruling BJP Legislators, officials and citizens to generously contribute to the fund for fighting the pandemic.
"I also appeal to the citizens to contribute in whatever capacity to help the state in fighting the coronavirus outbreak," said Yediyurappa in a tweet a week ago.
