New Delhi, March 31 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi government is getting ready to serve lunch and dinner to about 12 lakh people from Wednesday with additional 2,000 food distribution centres across the city, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Tuesday.
"From tomorrow, in about 2,500 schools and 250 night shelters, food will be distributed. Each centre will have the capacity to feed about 10 to 12 lakh people. Till now, we were serving about four lakh daily from 800 locations," the Chief Minister told the media.
Kejriwal said he was not expecting such a big number of people from the city but more number of hunger relief camps will help in social distancing -- crucial for coronavirus control.
"Ration is being distributed through shops and people are coming in large numbers. There were reports that the shops had run out of ration. We are ensuring enough supply for of food grains. There is nothing to panic. We are distributing the grains daily," Kejriwal said.
If there is no ration, Kejriwal said, it will be provided to the shops in a day or so.
"We are also aiming to provide ration to the poor with no ration cards. Meanwhile, you can take food from the hunger relief camps," he added.
India is under a 21-day lockdown till April 14 and the states have been directed by the Centre to ensure food and shelter to the homeless and poor.
