New Delhi, March 31 (IANS The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has pledged its full support to Prime Minister Narendra Modis appeal at a time when the country is faced with battling COVID-19 pandemic.
The federation has decided to contribute a sum of Rs 5 lakh to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
A cheque for the amount was sent to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), which had requested all National Sports Federations (NSFs) to make contributions to the Fund.
Over and above, Dushyant Chautala, president of TTFI, has also committed to a substantial sum which will be sent by TTFI to the PM's Relief Fund in due course of time.
On Monday, India's top-ranked paddler Sathiyan Gnanasekaran had pledged to donate Rs one lakh to Tamil Nadu CMs Relief Fund and Rs 25,000 to PM-CARES Fund set to combat the coronavirus crisis in India.
"I feel it's our responsibility to give back to the society especially at the time of such a crisis. I was really moved by seeing the suffering of people and I felt I should help in the way I can," Sathiyan had told IANS from his home in Chennai.
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Executive Committee has decided to suspend all planned ITTF events and activities involving international travel until June 30 as it discussed the effects of COVID-19 on the international table tennis event schedule on Sunday.
More than 1,200 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in India and 32 people have already lost their lives.
