Lakhimpur (Assam): Woman stitches masks using ‘Gamocha’ amid lockdown #Gallery

Lakhimpur: A woman busy stitching masks using 'Gamocha' on Day 5 of the 21-day countrywide lockdown imposed to contain the spread of novel coronavirus, at Dhakuwakhana in Lakhimpur district of Assam on March 29, 2020. Gamosha is a rectangular shaped towel which is of great significance in the Assamese culture. A 'Gamosha' is woven out of white threads with colorful and intricate inlays in Red. There has been a great surge in the demand for masks ever since coronavirus started affecting the world. As per the latest statistcs from the World Health Organsation, there are 575,444 cofirmed cases of Coronavirus across 202 nations with 26,654 deaths. Cases across India surged to 974 with 109 new cases on Saturday. The death toll in the country touched 27 with Delhi, Kerela, Telangana, Gujarat and Maharashtra confirming one death each.
