Netflix’s web-series Messiah garnered a good level of a niche fan-base, the high concept series about what it might be like if Jesus actually did return for the second coming, though with pressing mysteries about whether he’s a hoax, or even the antichrist, pervaded the series.
With Corona Virus looming everyone’s head like a doomsday waiting to happen, and lockdown in progress across globe, with no food, water or supplies, perhaps some of the prophecies are coming true and it would be opportune time to release the second season. If the second season releases, it will be huge hit.
World is facing dire consequences right now, some claims there is bio-chemical war going on, some quips it’s a mass cleaning, some hyperventilating about global conspiracy, which all sounds like the plot of Messiah and if Netflix releases the series’ much awaited second season any time soon, it will go viral!
The first season ended with Al-Masih actually raising the dead in a plane crash, though the central mystery of whether he’s a real Messiah or the Antichrist remain unsolved and the second season might some hope and light in these dark times.
Created by Michael Petroni, the first season of Messiah consists of ten episodes, which were released on Netflix on January 1, 2020. The series stars Mehdi Dehbi, Tomer Sisley, Michelle Monaghan, John Ortiz, Melinda Page Hamilton, Stefania LaVie Owen, Jane Adams, Sayyid El Alami, Fares Landoulsi, and Wil Traval.
The series focuses on the modern world's reaction to a man who first appears in the Middle East, whose followers claim him to be the eschatological return of 'Isa (Jesus). His sudden appearance and apparent miracles spark a growing international following, casting doubts around who he really is, a case investigated by a CIA officer.
Hopefully Netflix would take the current geo-political scenario in consideration and release the second season, perhaps by November or October.
