Italian corona patient was cured, but died due to heart failure: R'sthan govt

Jaipur, March 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) Rajasthan government's health department on Friday issued a statement after the death of an Italian tourist who recently tested negative after being given medical treatment in Jaipur and confirmed that the patient died from heart failure.

The statement said a resident of Lombardy region of Italy arrived in India on February 20 and experienced difficulty in breathing and had mild fever from February 21.

 

Along with these complaints, he reached Jaipur on February 28 and was admitted at Fortis Hospital in Jaipur. After admission in Fortis due to suspicion on COVID 19, he was referred to SMS Medical College and Hospital in Jaipur and was admitted in SMS Isolation Ward on Feb 29 and was found COVID 19 positive on March 2.

As per information by his wife, he was a 'chain smoker' and had chronic bronchitis.

However, he tested negative for corona in a test conducted on March 14 and also on March 15, said the health department statement.

"Treatment for ventilation for lung disease was continued along with antibiotics, oxygen, (non-invasive ventilation) and observation at SMS Hospital," said the statement.

On March 16, the medical board decided to shift the patient to the emergency ICU as patient was found corona-19 negative.

The treatment continued and the patient was stable.

On march 17, he was stable on oxygen with NIV, while his wife insisted for transfer to Fortis hospital.

The Italian ambassador to India also contacted ACS Medical and Health that the patient be transferred to Fortis hospital in Jaipur.

On march 18, the patient was on oxygen and NIV (non-invasive ventilation).

His parameters were well maintained. On March 19 morning, a team from Fortis came for transfer for further management of co-morbidity at their facility. They advised for intubation here only for transfer period.

After the patient was stable, he was under the supervision of the Fortis team and was transferred to Fortis along with discharge summary.

His wife had said that she was satisfied with the treatment given at SMS Hospital and appreciated the team of doctor at SMS Hospital

As per feedback from Fortis hospital, patient's death occurred due to heart failure.

"It is reiterated that the patient was free of COVID-19 since March 14. It is also relevant to mention that he was a chain smoker and was otherwise vulnerable", said the statement.
