New Delhi, March 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) One of national capital's premier clubs, the Delhi Gymkhana Club will remain completely shut with immediate effect till March 31 in view of the coronavirus outbreak.
The decision comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call on Thursday to all people to resist stepping out of their homes except for necessary work.
The club, however, has already been partially shut over the past few days.
"It has been (completely) closed today till March 31. It was partially closed earlier. We had just kept tennis and squash courts open, but that will also be suspended now. No activity whatsoever...in Delhi Gymkhana from today onwards," Ajay Dua, a committee member of the governing body of the club, told IANS.
It might be the first time that the premier club is going through a temporary shutdown of this kind as Dua said: "We don't remember when it last happened."
One of the oldest clubs in India, the Gymkhana Club was built at its current address of Safdarjung Road in the early 1930s, as per its website.
Several clubs in the national capital and across the country have been temporarily shut to control the spread of coronavirus infection.
Further, the Delhi government has closed all non-essential services in Delhi till March 31. All cinemas, public swimming pools, dine-in at restaurants, schools, colleges and clubs have been shut. On Thursday, it also barred gatherings of more than 20 persons at one place. Earlier, the limit was 50 persons.
In India, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases has crossed 200 and four death have been reported so far.
