Covid-19: After Gymkhana Club, Habitat and IIC shut down


New Delhi, March 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) Two of the most prominent places in Delhi -- the India Habitat Centre and the India International Centre -- have also shut temporarily in view of the rising Coronavirus cases.

While IANS contacted IIC, it was informed the shutdown is effective immediately and will continue till March 31. All dining, library facilities etc has been shut. Only a small administrative office will remain open during this period, say sources.

Meanwhile, IHC has put up a notice on its website that reads: "The Habitat Library and Resource Centre will remain closed with immediate effect, from March 20-31, 2020, in view of the prevailing situation caused by Covid-19. This decision has been taken with utmost care and concern for the well-being of members."

All the proposed events were also rescheduled. For instance, there was the third edition of the Habitat International Film Festival scheduled from Friday but it didn't take place.

"Due to the continued uncertainty and concern around the COVID-19 virus in New Delhi, we regret to announce the rescheduling of the Habitat International Film Festival. The new dates for the HIFF are May 21st till May 31st, 2020. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused," a notice flashing on the website said.

Earlier, one of the national capital's premier clubs, the Delhi Gymkhana Club said it will remain completely shut with immediate effect till March 31 in view of the coronavirus outbreak. "It has been (completely) closed today till March 31. It was partially closed earlier. We had just kept tennis and squash courts open, but that will also be suspended now. No activity whatsoever...in Delhi Gymkhana from today onwards," Ajay Dua, a committee member of the governing body of the club, told IANS.
