Mumbai, March 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) Swami Vivekanand International School, Borivali, reigned supreme in the Boys' U-16 category of the Mumbai Indians Junior 2020 cricket tournament on Wednesday. The Inter-School giants outclassed IES New English School, Bandra, by 88 runs in the final.
Pranay Kapadia scored a defiant 69 not out off 109 balls, leading SVIS to a fighting total of 180 all-out in 40 overs. Rudra Tank was the second-best contributor with 29 runs as the duo applied themselves well according to the situation to take SVIS to a decent total.
IES New English fancied their chances before the second innings began but their batsmen couldn't deliver in the big match. They could hardly put up a fight against some hostile bowling in helpful conditions. IES New English were eventually bowled out for 92 in 26.1 overs.
Kapadia emerged the player of the final for his gutsy batting display in testing conditions to lead his team to the title triumph.
In the Boys' U-14 semi-finals, Auwab Kunni of Rizvi Springfield High School, Bandra hammered an unbeaten ton to guide his school to a 13-run win over Swami Vivekanand International School (Kandivali).
Kunni made 106 not out in 98 balls to help Rizvi post a challenging total of 247/2 in 40 overs. In-form batsman Awais Khan supported Kunni with a crucial knock of 77 runs. SVIS Kandivali was in the chase for the bulk portion of their innings but the regular loss of wickets left them a mountain to climb and they fell well short in the end.
In the U-16 Girls category, Shardashram Vidyamandir English School, Dadar set up a summit clash with St. Columba School, Gamdevi after an emphatic win in the semi-finals on Wednesday. Shardashram defeated IES Navi Mumbai High School by 48 runs while St. Columba School thrashed Swami Vivekanand International School, Borivali by eight wickets.
