MI junior cricket: Awais Khan steers Rizvi into semis


Mumbai, March 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) Awais Khan scored an unbeaten hundred to power Rizvi Springfield High School, Bandra, into the Boys' U-14 semifinal of the Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament here on Monday. Rizvi thrashed Don Bosco High School, Matunga, by 99 runs in the quarterfinal.

Khan played a responsible knock of 103 off 105 balls to stay till the end and ensure Rizvi finish with a challenging total of 218/6 in their stipulated 40 overs after batting first. Harsh Gharsun gave Khan good support from the other end with his sedate knock of 46.

The target proved too much for Bosco as their batters failed to put up a fight against Rizvi's strong bowling line-up. Bosco managed just 119 befor ebeing bowled out in 36.4 overs. Khan contributed with the ball as well by picking up a crucial wicket.

In another quarterfinal, Aryan Shejule of Al-Barkat Malik English School scored 94 in his team's 51-run win over KC Gandhi English School, Kalyan. Shejule was measured in his 107-ball knock to help his school post 204/10 in 40 overs. In response, KC Gandhi batsmen were bowled out for 153 in 38.1 overs. Shejule chipped in with a wicket as well.

Meanwhile, Swami Vivekanand International School, Kandivali, and IES New English School, Bandra, posted emphatic victories in the two remaining quarterfinals to complete the semifinal line-up.

Swami Vivekanand rode on Yatharth Yadav's all-round performance to thrash St. Mary's High School by 134 runs. Yadav first scored 73 to help his side post a total of 213/9 in 40 overs and then scalped three wickets to help bowl out St. Mary's for just 79 in 30.3 overs.

IES New English defeated Swami Vivekanand International School, Borivali, by 73 runs. Aarush Patankar (41), Arjun Bagaitkar (34) played crucial knocks before Hrishikesh Gore scored an unbeaten 30 off 22 balls to lift IES New English's score to 209/6 in 40 overs. In reply, Swami Vivekanand International School were bowled out for 136 in 32.4 overs.
