Internet has created a lot of space for independent music and musicians says Mohit Chauhan

Singer Mohit Chauhan, who recently launched his latest song named ‘Meethi Meethi Gallan’, feels that now, internet has created a lot of space for independent music and musicians in the country. He also pointed out that film music has become slightly repetitive and that’s the reason audience are looking for new and fresh tunes.

Mohit Chauhan was interacting with the media to promote ‘Meethi Meethi Gallan’ on Friday in Mumbai.

When asked Chauhan whether he feels that independent music in India is gaining its foothold at this moment, he said, “Definitely… I feel internet has created a lot space for independent music and musicians. And I also feel that film music has become slightly repetitive. People are more focusing on remix songs than original songs in their films. So, people are now trying to find and listen to meaningful and soulful songs. It is not necessary that it can only be a part of a particular film; it can be non-film song as well.”

Chauhan added, “I was the part of band called Silk Route and we produced an album named ‘Boondein’ and all the songs of that album did really well. I also produced my solo album named ‘Fitoor’ so; people do listen to non-film songs. I feel internet is a very powerful medium and now it has become very easy to showcase your songs for the audience.”

Mohit Chauhan is frequent collaborator with music composers Pritam Chakraborty and A. R. Rahman. In 2010, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for Masakali’ from ‘Delhi-6’.  

Talking about his latest song ‘Meethi Meethi Gallan’, Chauhan said, “It’s a very sweet and romantic song.  It is composed by Raaj Aashoo and its lyrics are written by Murali Agarwal. I had really nice time when I was recording it and it has been shot in Banaras. It is one of my favorite cities. I am getting very good feedback for the song. Most people have liked it and they are giving nice comments. I am hopeful that more people will like and appreciate the song.”

Talking about his upcoming projects, Chauhan said, “I am doing film songs. I am also working on my album and my singles. I am planning to release it soon and I hope people will like it.”
