Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day over Delhi riots

New Delhi, March 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) Uproar over Delhi violence continued to disrupt the Upper House of Parliament with members of the opposition trooping into the well and raising slogans against the central government.

Some of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) members wore black bands to protest against the government.

The members called for the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah over communal riots in Delhi that saw killing of 45 people in the northeast Delhi while hundreds being injured.

As soon as the House assembled after being adjourned till 2 p.m., members of the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, CPI, TMC and other parties stormed into the well. They wanted the Chair to suspend the House business and discuss the reasons of communal violence and why it could not be contained in time.

Even as disruptions continued, Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank introduced the Central Sanskrit Universities Bill, 2019 to establish and incorporate Universities for teaching and research in Sanskrit.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh appealed to the opposition members to return to their seats and allow the House to function properly but it fell on deaf ears. As many as 33 members were on their feet raising slogans like "Goli marna band karo" (stop firing bullets) and "Tanasahi nahin chalegi" (No more dictatorship will be allowed).

The constant ruckus and loud slogans forced the Deputy Chairman to adjourn the House till Tuesday 11 a.m.

Earlier in the morning when the House assembled after three weeks of recess of the Budget session, opposition members demanded discussion on Delhi riots but Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu did not accept it. He noted the gravity of the issue and the need for discussion but suggested that efforts should be made first on establishing normalcy in violence-hit areas.

But members did not budge from their positions and protested against the government. This forced the Chair to adjourn the proceedings of the House till 2 p.m.
