New Delhi, Feb 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) After maintaining a stony silence peppered with tweets appealing for calm, the Aam Aadmi Party not only spoke on the Delhi riots but politicised it at a crucial time.
Accusing "outsiders" for the mayhem that Delhi has been through, the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday put pointed questions towards Union Home Minister Amit Shah. "If Amit Shah and his police force can't stop the riots then why is he not sending the Army? The Army should be sent immediately to Delhi and action should be taken against those who incited riots," said AAP leader Sanjay Singh at a press conference.
Making a direct political charge, he alleged that so far, Shah has not even made an appeal for peace. He asked, "Does Amit Shah not have any responsibility?"
Hitting out at the Delhi Police, whose role has come under the scanner, Gopal Rai, another senior AAP leader alleged that "not once in the last three days" did the Delhi Police Commissioner pick phone calls from AAP leaders. "Delhi is burning and the police commissioner has not even responded," Rai claimed.
He further added, "Delhi government has given instructions to the fire department and all hospital authorities to be vigilant and help the citizens in this difficult time. We are closely monitoring the situation in Delhi."
This charge at the BJP's former President and Home Minister came a day after Kejriwal co-chaired a meeting on Delhi violence along with Shah. Kejriwal's alleged silence or perceived non-criticism came under sharp attack both online and offline with JNU students marching to his residence on Tuesday night demanding he make his position on the continuous violence clear.
So far, 20 people are reported killed in the Delhi violence which appears to be one of the worst in recent times. A constable too succumbed to injuries that sparked massive outrage.
The cause of the violence is believed to be a clash between pro- and anti-CAA protesters after those in support of the legislation blocked a road in northeast Delhi's Jafrabad area, in a similar fashion to that of Shaheen Bagh, over the weekend.
