Gandhinagar, Feb 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday said that violence like what was witnessed in Khambhat town would not be tolerated at any cost and warned of strict action against those involved.
Rioters had set ablaze 25 to 30 houses and shops in Akbarpura area of Khambhat in Anand district on Sunday afternoon. Around a dozen persons were reported injured following clashes and stone-pelting between two groups. Over two dozen vehicles were also damaged.
"Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja has taken stock of the situation in Khambhat. The Director General of Police too has reached the town. The state government is committed to quell such incidents through strict action," Rupani said.
He said that instructions had been issued to the Home Department, including police, to ensure such violent incidents are not repeated.
Sources said that Akbarpura had witnessed a series of violent incidents in the past month.
Police has so far arrested nearly 40 persons for the Sunday violence. According to police, no serious injury was reported though some persons were hospitalised after the clash. Later, they were discharged from hospital.
