Serie A games affected due to spread of coronavirus

Milan, Feb 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Fears of the spread of novel coronavirus has led to Inter Milan's game against Sampdoria among three Serie A fixtures to be postponed.

The suspension was announced by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte at a news conference on Saturday evening, a BBC report said.

"Minister of Sport (Vincenzo) Spadafora intends to suspend all sporting events planned for Sunday in the Veneto and Lombardy regions," Conte said.

The other games are Verona vs Cagliari and Atalanta vs Sassuolo.

Inter Milan confirmed the same via Twitter.

"#InterSampdoria, which was due to take place at 20:45 CET on Sunday 23 February, has been postponed to a later date," the tweet said.

After a special cabinet meeting, the Italian government has announced tougher measures to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, as number of cases in the country increased to 79 with two fatalities.

The government's new measures include a ban on people entering and leaving the designated areas in the worst-hit northern Italy, and the suspension of all public, business, sports and school activities and events in the areas, Xinhua news agency quoted Prime Minister Conte as saying on Saturday.
