New Delhi, Feb 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) The 21st edition of Bharat Rang Mahotsav International Theatre Festival, organised by the National School of Drama (NSD), concluded after staging plays in several Indian languages, along with 10 folk and 10 foreign plays, on Friday.
The closing ceremony was followed by 'Laiembigee Ishei', a Manipuri play by Chorus Repertory Theatre group, written & directed by Ratan Thiyam. Woven around the importance of identity, tradition, and preservation of culture in modern times, the production brought forth the many challenges faced by our rituals and traditions which carry the identity of our culture. The content of this play serves as a confluence of modernity, the past, present, and future where very important issues, complex aesthetics, and philosophical challenges are negotiated.
The chief guest, theatre director and actor, Rudraprasad Sengupta said: "I would like to acclaim National School of Drama for the very successful organisation of this 21 day festival in Delhi and five other cities. I must say that the audience has enjoyed the plays staged, appreciated them and thought over them afterward."
The Acting Chairman of National School of Drama Dr. Arjun Deo Charan, added: "I would like to thank Rudraprasad Sengupta and Shri Ratan Thiyam for taking out time and bring this festival to an adoring culmination. The plays performed in this BRM leave us with a fresh breath, a lot to think about and evolve."
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Suresh Sharma, Director in-charge of the NSD, said: "This year, we changed the traditional system of screening in front of a single selection committee was replaced by the double screening procedure. Our efforts are to ensure that young people get the best platform to showcase their talent. Theatre's future is in the hands of youngsters now, and they are once who are going to take this legacy forward. This festival is a step forward and we are sure that the audience will keep encouraging."
