Twitterati divided over Swamy’s remark on GST

New Delhi, Feb 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy is the centre of attention on Twitter at the moment, some call him "fearless", while others accuse him of being a "backstabber".

It all began after the BJP leader made a statement on Wednesday, where he took a dig at India's latest tax reform GST and economic reforms by the present government.

Speaking at 'India -- an economic superpower by 2030' organised by the Pragna Bharati in Hyderabad, the BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday described GST as the biggest madness of the 21st century and called for radical reforms such as abolishing income tax to achieve 10 per cent growth rate to make the country an economic superpower by 2030.

The BJP leader said the problem India currently faces is shortage of demand as people do not have money to spend, thereby hindering the economic cycle.

As his remarks came out in public domain, Twitterati were left divided. One of them wrote, "BJP MP Dr. Subramanian Swamy has said GST is the biggest madness of the 21st century. I strongly disagree. No madness can beat electing Modi sarkar, that too twice over!"

Another wrote, "Even critics of Modi govt. won't agree with this madness of Subramanian Swamy. No wonder why Indira Gandhi once described Subramanian Swamy as 'Santa Claus with unrealistic ideas'."

There are many, though who praise him for taking a stand on the plight of businessmen and economic growth. A post read, "I think he is the most educated person in BJP who is not 'bhakt' or 'chamcha'.

Another said: "Bravo @Swamy39 is absolutely right here! GST is actually the biggest madness, 5/6 different slabs, VAT on fuel & Alcohol is still in existence, I really dunno why @BJP4India is calling it as one nation one tax?".
