Gambhir invites Kejriwal to Asia’s ‘trash mountain’

New Delhi, Feb 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) On a day Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal went to meet Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP MP Gautam Gambhir wrote to Kejriwal inviting him to visit the "trash mountain" Ghazipur landfill, in his constituency.

Sounding sarcastic, Gambhir wrote, "As it has been a while since the results came and your swearing-in ceremony, I would like to draw your attention towards one of the biggest landfill sites of Asia, the Ghazipur landfill which falls under my constituency (East Delhi)."

Calling it a "matter of great concern", while referring to the plight of those living next to the dumpyard, he said, "As the CM you should visit the site for their sake and see their condition."

Gambhir has been extremely vocal about the landfill. On February 18, BJP's East Delhi inspected the landfill site followed by a review meeting in the same in which the idea of roping in National Highway Authority of India was floated.

Speaking in the meeting, Gambhir said, "Getting the height of the landfill site down is my biggest priority and I would take every possible step for the same," adding that all stakeholders should work for the betterment of the people, rising above political differences.

Last year in October, the BJP MP launched a pilot project to solve Ghazipur garbage mess. He inaugurated a ballistic segregator as part of a pilot project to reduce the size and ultimately clear the landfill.

The Ghazipur landfill is Asia's biggest garbage mountain which falls under Gambhir's parliamentary constituency of East Delhi. Locals have been demanding its removal for years.

On September 1, 2017, a portion of the landfill slid around 110 metres across an area adjacent to the landfill. Two persons died and five were injured in the cave-in.
