New Delhi, Feb 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC), one of the world's most prestigious grappling tournaments, is all set to unveil the first ever ADCC India Nationals at the DLF Avenue Mall, Saket, in the national capital on Sunday.
The submission wrestling tournament is expected to witness over 300 fighters battling it out for the crown.
The tournament is open only to Indian nationals and is divided into three categories i.e. beginners, intermediate and pro. The winner of the pro category will move on to compete at the ADCC Asian qualifiers; and move one step closer to compete against the likes of Gordan Ryan and Keenan Cornelius at the ADCC World Championships 2021.
The ADCC, for the first time, is organising an absolute division (no weight category) for the pros. This is the first time that 'the best grappler in India will be crowned'.
Three international referees from Singapore, Finland and Kazakhstan will officiate three mat areas.
Speaking on the tournament taking place for the first time in India, Siddharth Singh, CEO of Crosstrain Fight Club and Co-Founder ADCC India, said "I am super excited about ADCC India Nationals taking place in our country for the very first time. This is a huge opportunity for Indian grappling enthusiasts to showcase what they are capable of on the mat. This is a chance for Indians to create history as no Indian has qualified for the World Championships. I am hoping to witness some great action and would like to wish the best to all the participants."
Echoing Singh's sentiments, Annu Talwar Barao, Co-Founder, ReIgnite Fitness Fest India, said "Interest in combat sport in the country has gained momentum over the past few years. The phenomenon has transcended into one of the fastest growing sport in India and we are pleased to bring ADCC to Indian fighters who now have the opportunity to try and accomplish the ultimate achievement in their grappling careers".
Marko Leisten, Head of ADCC Europe, said "India is a very important market for us and we are very keen to see the sport grow in the Indian sub-continent".
Sheikh Tahnoon, Founder of ADCC, said "At the rate that Grappling and MMA is growing in India, I'm sure we will soon see an Indian World Champion".
After starting in 1998, The ADCC World Championship will be in its 14th edition in 2021. The ADCC World Championship takes place once every two years and has featured grapplers like Kron Gracie, Kyra Gracie, Fabricio Werdum, Demian Maia and others.
The qualification for the world championship takes place in four continents -- American tryouts, North American tryouts, South American tryouts and Asian tryouts.
