Now, Milind hits back at Maken after 'leave party' jibe

New Delhi, Feb 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Within days of Congress debacle in Delhi Assembly elections, a war of words has erupted between its Maharashtra leader Milind Deora and DPCC ex-chief Ajay Maken on Twitter following the former's praise for the Arvind Kejriwal government.

It all started when Deora, a former Mumbai Congress president, tweeted praise for the Kejriwal government on Sunday. "Sharing a lesser known and welcome fact -- the @ArvindKejriwal-led Delhi government doubled its revenues to Rs 60,000 crore and maintained a revenue surplus over the last 5 years. Food for thought: Delhi is now one of India's most fiscally prudent governments," he wrote on his post.

Maken was the first to react on Sunday: "Brother, you want to leave @INCIndia - Please do - Then propagate half baked facts!"

Maken then compared revenue generation in Delhi from 1997-1998 onwards, claiming that during the Congress rule in 2013-14 BE (Revenue) was Rs 37,459 crore, a growth of 14.87 per cent. He said that this figure had now come down to Rs 60,000 crore in 2019-20, a growth of only 9.90 per cent.

Deora hit back on Monday morning: "Brother, I would never undermine Sheila Dikshit's stellar performance as Delhi CM. That's your specialty. But it's never too late to change! Instead of advocating an alliance with AAP, if only you had highlighted Sheila ji's achievements, @INCIndia would've been in power today."

Earlier, former AAP MLA from Chandni Chowk, Alka Lamba, who joined the Congress to unsuccessfully fight the 2020 Assembly elections, too had attacked Deora, considered close to Rahul Gandhi.

She wrote: "Join Congress in the name of father, get ticket because of political lineage and then lose the election while leading the party. But when it's time to fight for the party, play guitar."

Another Congress leader Radhika Khera, who contested from Janakpuri but lost, wrote on Twitter: "As a young first-time contestant, I find this extremely disappointing from our senior leaders, who instead of encouraging their own party to do better are busy patting AAP's back! Food for thought: Delhi has run a surplus since 1994, this peaked in 2011 under Sheila ji."

Soon after Delhi Assembly elections were declared on February 11, Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee had criticised senior party leader P. Chidambaram for praising AAP performance.

The party leadership has since reprimanded its leaders not to speak in public and discuss the matter on party fora only.
