Indore, Feb 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday submitted a closure report in connection with Namrata Damor's death, considering it a "suicide", sources said.
A CBI source said the agency filed the closure report in Damor's death case before a Special CBI court here. He said the CBI has considered Damor's death as a suicide in its closure report.
The CBI had taken over the probe from the state Special Investigation Team in in December 2015 on the Supreme Court orders, dated July 9, 2015 and September 11, 2015.
The Vyapam scam refers to irregularities in exams held by the the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) for admission in professional courses and state services over several years. The scam hit national headlines in 2013.
Damor, a 19-year-old medical student, was found dead on train tracks in Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh on January 7, 2012.
Three years later, a Delhi-based TV journalist visited Damor's home to investigate her death. However, while talking to her father, Singh complained of uneasiness and died within hours.
It was journalist's mysterious death at the Damor residence in Meghnagar, a town in the state's Jhabua district, on July 5, 2015 that led to her case being reopened.
The then Shivraj Singh Chauhan-led BJP government was forced to order a CBI probe as more than 40 people allegedly linked to the scam, including accused, whisteblowers and witnesses, had died under mysterious circumstances, though the police ruled most of these deaths as natural, suicide or accident in almost all cases.
Earlier in December 2017, the CBI had filed the closure report in Damor's murder case. However, Damor's father questioned the CBI investigation in the court, following which the court asked the central probe agency to investigate further in the case.
