Jindal Global Law School to host int’l moot court contest

New Delhi, Feb 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Aiming to promote values of environmental justice and sustainability, the Jindal Global Law School of O.P Jindal Global University in Sonipat, Haryana will host the India national rounds of the 24th annual Stetson International Environmental Moot Court competition 2019-2020.

Organised by Surana & Surana International Attorneys, the contest will be hosted at the Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) from February 14-16, 2020.

The Stetson International Environmental Moot Court competition helps galvanise intellectual consciousness and social sensitivity among the youth.

Environmental issues have increasingly occupied centre-stage in international law, public policy and global governance.

"This exercise is a significant step towards sensitising today's youth to become tomorrow's green policy-makers to combat the negative long-term impact of environmental pollution on health, economy and social well-being of mankind in a sustainable and swift manner," Vinod Surana, Partner & CEO, Surana & Surana International Attorneys, said in a statement on Thursday.

"We are delighted to partner with the Jindal Global Law School of O.P. Jindal Global University in organising this moot court competition," Surana added.

This year's moot proposition concerns some of these significant challenges in the context of the reintroduction of a species of bears that have gone extinct.

Crucially, the dispute between two states regarding the reintroduction of bears has been referred to the International Court of Justice for adjudication.

The thematic relevance of such issues and the institutional setting make for a promising competition with innovative legal arguments and development of comparative jurisprudence.

With the vast array of teams registered to participate in the competition, the event aims to bring together world class scholars, distinguished jurists and budding international lawyers with an active interest in bridging the gap between theory and practise in international environmental law.

Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir will be the chief guest at the valedictory session and awards ceremony.

"We are very excited about hosting this moot court at a critical time in history when there are serious challenges to the future of our planet. Law schools and universities have a very big role to speak truth to power on issues relating to environment and the moot courts are opportunities for us to engage with the law and policy," said C. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, O.P Jindal Global University.
