Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is Known for pioneering a change in the portrayal of women in Hindi cinema with her roles in female-led films, she is the recipient of several awards, including a National Film Award and six Filmfare Awards.
Vidya Balan was interacting with the media on Wednesday in Mumbai at St.Xaviers College for the conversation on Arts Meet Academy.
When asked about her views on female centric films, on this Vidya said, "Male centric film have always had men. As a women or as female actor i don't want female centric films not to have women. Most often that's where we hold the centre stage. I think that's not the whole scenario I like. But it's something to think about really which I have never thought about it. It's right that every female centric film is not a feminist film.
But really what is feminist is also need to be revisited. I say this because I have the opportunity to travel all over the country and engage with people. I have realised over time that, what is empowerment and feminism actually. It is very very subjective. It all depends upon from what context you come from. I think for a village women a smaller step like leading your head high and walking with your ghoonghat up also marks the step of feminist or women empowerment, added Vidya."
Vidya Balan will be seen in 'Shakuntala Devi'. It's biographical film directed and written by Anu Menon, produced by Sony Pictures Networks India and Vikram Malhotra under his banner Abundantia Entertainment. The film stars Vidya Balan as Shakuntala Devi, a mental calculator who was known as the "human computer".
