New Delhi, Feb 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued a direction to the Central government to ward off misuse of Aadhaar card information.
A Bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice C. Hari Shankar asked the government to pay heed to suggestions give by a court-appointed Amicus Curiae (friends of the court) like having one-time password (OTP), instead of using biometrics, for Aadhaar authentication.
The court was hearing a case wherein a shop owner misused Aadhaar card details of customers to carry out fraudulent activities.
The owner allegedly used to insist the customers to give their thumb impression twice during Aadhaar verification of a SIM.
The second thumb impression was then used to issue a fresh connection to a third party.
The Bench also asked the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to take action if Aadhaar cards are misused.
